Under the esteemed patronage of HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Governor of Makkah Region, and Honorary President of the Endowment for the Language of the Qur’an at King Abdulaziz University, in cooperation with the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, hosted the international symposium titled:

The Bravery of Arabic: Approaches to Understanding Its Courage and Intelligence.”

Held on October 14–15, 2025 at the King Faisal Conference Center in Jeddah, the event brought together a distinguished group of scholars, linguists, and thought leaders to explore the enduring strength and future readiness of the Arabic language.

President of King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Tareef bin Youssef Alaama, emphasized that the symposium reflects the rich legacy of the Arabic language, as well as its unique capacity for adaptation, innovation, and renewal.

He stated that Arabic possesses a quality of ‘bravery’ that empowers it to engage with global linguistic challenges and technological advancement. It is not merely a language, it is a vessel of identity, civilization, and awareness, fully capable of evolving with contemporary transformations and meeting the needs of the future.

Dr. Alaama highlighted that the symposium featured a wide range of scholarly sessions addressing critical aspects of the Arabic language. These sessions explored the conceptual foundations of Arabic’s “bravery”, particularly its linguistic resilience and adaptability. They also examined Arabic’s role in civilizational dialogue and cultural exchange, along with its responsiveness to global linguistic change. Further discussions focused on the integration of Arabic within digital education platforms and modern artificial intelligence technologies, as well as advancements in modern lexicography, translation, and localization.

The opening ceremony featured a visual presentation celebrating the historical journey and global significance of the Arabic language. This was followed by a poetic recitation.

The university also announced the official launch of the Abdulrahman Abu Rashid Endowment for Qur’an Education, further reinforcing its commitment to preserving and promoting the Arabic language.

Secretary-General of the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Washmi, expressed his appreciation for the growing cooperation between the Academy and the university.

He noted:

The ‘Bravery of Arabic’ symposium is a testament to the Academy’s ongoing partnership with King Abdulaziz University through the Endowment for the Language of the Qur’an. It aims to explore and deepen the meaning of this concept across multiple fields, including grammar, lexicon, communication, education, technology, and cultural discourse.”

The opening session was graced by the presence of several high-profile figures, including H.E. Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Humaid, Imam and Preacher at the Grand Mosque; H.E. Dr. Abdulaziz Khoja, former Minister of Information; and Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Subail, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the King Abdulaziz Center for Cultural Communication. The session was moderated by prominent Saudi writer and former Shura Council member, Mr. Hamad Alkadi.

The symposium featured a series of scientific and cultural sessions that addressed diverse aspects of the Arabic language and its evolving role. These included discussions titled “Understanding the Bravery of Arabic: Conceptual Dimensions,” “Arabic and the Dialogue of Civilizations,” and “Arabic in the Digital Age.”

In parallel, attendees took part in complementary activities, including a roundtable discussion titled “From Classical Rhetoric to Contemporary Discourse Analysis” and a workshop focused on building volunteer teams to support the promotion of the Language of the Qur’an.

The symposium affirmed the enduring vitality and evolving role of the Arabic language in the modern world. Through intellectual inquiry and interdisciplinary dialogue, King Abdulaziz University continues to strengthen Arabic’s place in global academic and cultural landscapes, ensuring it remains a language of both heritage and innovation.
